You've spent months planning the wedding. The flowers have been chosen, the photographer is booked, the dress is ready and every detail of the reception has been carefully considered. But can I ask you something?
What is everyone eating on the morning of the wedding?
Because somewhere between the hair appointments, the make-up artist and the excitement of getting ready, breakfast has a habit of becoming an afterthought. And I think that's a shame. Your wedding morning is part of your wedding day. It deserves to feel every bit as special.
A beautiful morning begins with good food
Picture this. You're getting ready in a beautiful Cotswolds country house. Your favourite people are around you, music is playing and the room is full of that wonderful mixture of excitement and anticipation. In the corner, rather than a collection of supermarket bags and half-eaten pastries, there's a beautifully styled breakfast table. Fresh croissants, seasonal fruit, delicate savoury bites, individual yoghurt pots and perhaps a celebratory mocktail. Everything is ready. Nobody needs to organise breakfast, wash up or wonder whether there's enough food for everyone. You simply enjoy the morning. For me, that's what luxury should feel like.
Grazing works around your schedule
Wedding mornings rarely run exactly to plan. Someone is having their hair done. Someone else is looking for a missing earring. The photographer has arrived earlier than expected. A traditional sit-down breakfast can be difficult to coordinate. A thoughtfully planned grazing table gives everyone more flexibility. Guests can enjoy suitable food as they're getting ready, without needing to sit down together at a particular time. We can also think carefully about what actually works on a wedding morning. Bite-sized food, easy-to-manage portions and dishes that won't leave everyone worrying about spills on their outfits. Because however delicious a bowl of spaghetti might be, I'm not convinced it belongs anywhere near a wedding dress.
It's also part of the photographs
Some of my favourite wedding photographs aren't necessarily the formal portraits. They're the little moments. A bride laughing with her bridesmaids. A mother helping with the final details. A glass raised before everyone leaves for the ceremony. A beautifully styled breakfast table can become part of those memories. Think soft linens, fresh florals, colourful fruit and carefully selected serving pieces that complement the wedding palette. Rather than having catering that needs to be hidden away when the photographer arrives, you have something that enhances the room. Food as decor, quite literally.
Don't forget to actually eat
This is perhaps the least glamorous but most important reason to organise your wedding morning catering. You need to eat. With all the excitement, it's surprisingly easy to forget. And depending on the timings, there may be several hours between getting dressed and sitting down for your wedding breakfast. A good wedding morning menu should include a balance of satisfying savoury options, lighter bites, fruit and plenty of hydration. The aim isn't to create another enormous meal. It's to make sure everyone feels comfortable, relaxed and ready to enjoy the day.
What should be included in a bridal breakfast grazing table?
At Bespoke by J, I love combining beautiful presentation with food that genuinely works for the occasion.
A bridal breakfast might include:
A statement croissant tower with preserves and accompaniments
Mini bagels with savoury fillings
Seasonal fruit beautifully arranged
Individual yoghurt and granola pots
Delicate breakfast canapés
Fresh juice or a signature morning mocktail
The menu can be tailored to your preferences, the number of guests and the atmosphere you want to create. And, of course, the styling can reflect your wedding colours.
Make the morning part of the celebration
Your wedding doesn't begin when you walk down the aisle. It begins when you wake up, surrounded by the people who mean the most to you, preparing for one of the most memorable days of your life. So don't leave that part to chance. Invest in a morning that feels calm, considered and genuinely enjoyable. And please, make sure somebody feeds the bride.
